Blue Lab has recently established a function to accelerate value from data. The Data Acceleration team is focussed on delivering high value insights from data. Data scientists in the team explore data using innovative statistical, analytical and machine learning approaches to derive insights which will improve operational efficiencies and enable high-value customer propositions. Product Owners are the internal customer-facing interface for data product teams tasked with using data to provide insights into how to solve critical business problems. Working as part of an agile, multi-disciplinary team consisting of Data Scientists, Data Engineers, Project Managers and Domain Experts, Product Owners will engage with internal customers to clearly understand business problems and identify where big data and data science techniques can help provide new insights which drive actions to improve commercial performance. Product Owners will use their initiative, critical-thinking and invention to ensure the team delivers data products which provide customers what they need rather than what they want.
The Product Owner is expected to assume the following key responsibilities plus any other reasonable duties as required: Engage with Sponsors, Business Owners and Process Experts to understand high value business problems and identify data products where big data and machine learning analytical techniques can provide new insights to diagnose and resolve these problems Take the lead in defining a data product requirement document which estimates the value and level of effort for each potential data product to aid prioritisation and selection of future work Own a product charter for each data product which contains the essence of the product and acts as a contract between the Business Sponsor, key stakeholders and data product team. The product charter describes data sources, analytical approach, deliverables, user community, success factors and expected value Work with other teams across Data Acceleration on the end-to-end delivery of data products for example, coordinating extraction of data needed from source systems and working with end-users to define initial requirements for visualisations Prioritise deliverables for the data product team in the face of evolving customer/stakeholder requirements and delivery constraints Own a product roadmap for each data product being executed by the team which sets out its vision and how it will be incrementally improved over time Work with the Data Acceleration Product Lead to manage a pipeline of new high value data products Be the key point of contact for engagement of Business Owners, End-Users and Stakeholders with the data product team. Represent the team at all key meetings with Sponsors, Business Owners, End-Users and Stakeholders including product demonstration, retrospective and backlog generation sessions Be responsible for delivering high quality data products and ensuring deliverables are accepted and signed-off by Business Owners and End-Users Work with Data Stewards in the Data Governance team at the initial project definition stage and help to track the value of deployed data products
